Effects of the Addition of Different Additives before Mechanical Separation of Pig Slurry on Composition and Gaseous Emissions

The treatment of animal slurry is used to improve management on a farm scale. aim this laboratory study was assess the effects addition additives biochar, alum and clinoptilolite before mechanical separation whole pig (WS) characteristics emission NH3, N2O, CO2 CH4 from solid (SF) liquid fractions (LF). were mixed with WS (5% w/w), followed by separation, in total 12 treatments 3 replicates, including controls additives. Gaseous emissions measured for 30 d photoacoustic multigas monitor, initial slurries assessed. results indicated that modified physicochemical increased GWP SF LF, but not NH3 losses. However, nutrient value reduced LF. Additionally, just additive effective reduction E. coli. led significant reductions N2O emissions, higher losses (51% NH3) similar all (70% N2O) observed, whereas biochar (25% 50% CH4) (33% 30% clinoptilolite. Although had positive effect management, it can be concluded has potential best mitigation measure because improves content sanitation decreases gaseous management.
